How-to: Offline Press Release

An interesting article titled 29 Points to Creating an Effective Press Release. PR on the web seems huge these days, and I keep seeing a lot of very good feedback from people using it. This linked article suggests some good points for writing such a Press Release.

Remove Selected Pages From Yahoo Index

A member at WebmasterWorld asked you one can remove his pages from Yahoo index. Tim, the local Yahoo rep. posted a url with a solution:

  • create a “robots.txt” file on your web site to prevent our crawler from indexing your site
  • add a “noindex” meta tag to your documents
  • remove the original document from your web site
  • host the document on a secure section of your web site (HTTPS or login)

He also added later on that:

We do provide a removal service. Just click no at the bottom of the page linked above and you get a form to fill out with the information. There is actually also a legal page about copyright violations etc in the help section too that has legal contact information via phone, fax and email.

Own any domain exploit, no defense exists

A recent post regarding an exposed exploit in all browsers suggests that one can own any domain using International Domain Name (IDN) to spoof current domains.
For example:
The domain: http://www.pаypal.com/ should be interperted by all browsers into http://www.paypal.com/ but present the page www.xn--pypal-4ve.com and therefore one can ’steal’ any domain name / ssl.

At the moment there is no idea how to fix this, nor do the developers.

Note: I tried all the above suggested ideas / links on ‘Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0′ and could not make this work. Could you?

EMule / EDonkey LowID Problem - Sprint DSL

My Sprint DSL Service
I’ve been trying to setup Emule on my computer for the longest time. I could never get rid of the LowID problem which, for those of you who don’t know, causes really slow downloads. I’ve read every single tutorial on the net with no success.
I finally decided to contact Sprint Customer Service, and learned something new: My modem has a built in firewall and proxy. This is just another protection that Sprint provides its’ customers with along with one of the best spam control I’ve ever seen. So as a side note, if you are looking for a good DSL provider, I would highly recommend their services.

Setting up EMule / EDonkey to work with Sprint DSL Modem
As I mentioned, Sprint DSL ‘645 Series’ has a built in proxy and firewall, and having that turned on, Emule could not work properly. So this is the solution I found:

Sprint DSL Router / Modem 645 Series

This router has a web baised interface, but it does not actually say “Port Forwarding” in the listing.

I have this router connected to a wireless router so this post might get lengthly.

First to solve the Sprint router:
1) login to the web baised interface
In IE: http://192.168.1.1 - this is default for this router
Use admin as username and 1234 as password
NOTE: 1234 is default when you origionally setup the router with sprint dsl your email address password was placed in here, so use that to log in.

2) Click on Advanced Setup on the left
Click on NAT
In Network Address Translation (NAT) select the box: SUA Only and edit details

3) In this screen you will have a menu with start port end port and IP address

Check with EMule / EDonkey to find your ports, but the ip address will be 192.168.1.2
Save changes

If you only have one computer and router you are done.

Good Luck…

Welcome to My New Blog!

Hello and Welcome to my New Blog.
This my first post and I will try to give you an overview about my self and why I started this blog:
I’ve been introduced to web design through the ‘Adult Internet’ side, and began designing web sites beginning summer of 2001. I started with a WYSIWYG program (HomeSite) and real quick forced myself to learn HTML.
I then took a couple of years off as I found my model at the time not profitable enough (I later learned that I just did not know what it meant to be a full time designer…).
In January 2004 I decided apply my experience from my last job and my knowledge as a designer and give this business another shot. I got back into HTML, and started adding the CSS aspect into it. I tryed a few affiliate programs, and soon found out that to be successful at that I had to learn some scripting language that will produce dynamic content on the fly, based on some database. I then started learning PHP, and later added MySQL to the package.
At this point I knew how to produce web sites (even dynamic ones), but for the life of me could not get my sites to rank on the search engines. Offcourse I was using my experience which was raughly 2 years old and did not work.
Search engine optimization was my next stop. I started frequenting the different forums, article sites and any information I could get my hands on. It proved itself. I started improving my own ranking as well as my clients’ rankings. I now do both web design and search engine optimization, and that’s what got me to start this blog.

Getting back into this business I felt like a newbie. Things change everyday, and some ideas are not even covered by the professionals in this business. Although I see a lot of good advice being given at the different forums, I think that some basic things are lacking and a lot of newbies’ get lost in the mix.

In this blog I will try to cober all aspects of the web. Beginning from basic web design skills and up to SEO / SEM. I will try to also touch on PHP & MySQL, VB, JavaScript and CSS (Let me know if you have any special requests…).

Thanks again for checking my site and please come back soon,
